Glum-ness

Well its my first night alone . . . ever. Until tonight I have always had someone I knew and trusted by my side when I spent the night away from home. Today I have no one. Sure . . . there are people here from the same high school as me . . . I may have even noticed them in the hallway . . . but not a single one of my friends is here . . . and I feel all alone.

It's not all bad I suppose. I can now set my own curfew, eat whenever and whatever I want. I no longer have to follow someone else's timeline for the day . . . but at the same time, I can't shake this unbelievable feeling of homesickness . . . something that with five brothers still at home, I never thought I would have.

I guess all I really want right now is to go back home to my not-so-perfect life where at least everything felt right. And I felt at home.

Summer Ends

Hey all. Once again, its been awhile since I've been on the 'ol blog. But here I am.

A lot has changed since my last post . . . I graduated high school, I got a cell phone (finally! My first one ever, and I'm only 18!) and of course, my aunt gave me a college makeover. That's right world, for the first time ever, I Mattie F, am wearing makeup. (dun dun duh!)

Actually its not that bad. I actually can't believe it took me this long to do it . . . but it's done now, just in time for college in T-minus 2 weeks. I can't believe that this summer is almost over and I'm about to start a whole new version of awful. We'll have to see how it goes.

Random Topic: Sock Monkeys

Sock monkeys are awesome. I don't know why. I doubt that anyone can truly define what makes a stuffed sock (that looks like a monkey) so amazing, but they are. So, this post is dedicated to sock monkeys, and their amazingness.

Actually, I looked up the history of Sock Monkeys on Wikipedia, and if you want to check it out, click here.

Otherwise, check out these awesome Sock Monkey Pictures:

Spring Time Worries

Utah has a funny way of destroying even the most carefully laid out plans. As I mentioned in my last post, the weather is unpredictable to say the least. One moment, we are worried about flooding, and the next, it dumps an inch of snow on us.

Of course, flooding is still a possibility. According to this website I checked out (Click here to see it.) there is more snow on our Mountain than ever, and when the spring temperatures begin to show up (assuming that they EVER show up) then we are going to be in a world of hurt. :P

On the bright side, they might be flooding 500 again, and that is always an exciting thing to look out for . . .

Of Utah and Weather

Two words . . . Utah weather.

If anyone has lived in, visited, or heard about Utah, I'm sure the weather has been mentioned.

In most states, there is a normal. In Arizona, expect it to be hot, in Florida, it's humid, but in Utah, you never know what the weather is going to do.

Simply put, Utah is the only state in which a person wears a sweater and a pair of shorts on the same day.

That's what we've been dealing with lately. For a few days, we have lovely spring weather, and the next moment, its a freaking blizzard. It's absolutely crazy, and it's going to happen again. Tomorrow. :P

Procrastination

So recently, in my horrible English Class, I was forced to write an 8 page research paper where "anything that is not common knowledge must be cited". This represents a problem in that I haven't had to cite things, I mean really cite things, for years. This includes the intext citations such as (Davies 134).

This is also a problem in that the paper was assigned months before it was actually due. You see, whenever something is assigned months before it's due, I tend to forget about it, thinking, "Oh, I'll have plenty of time." I will continue to think this, all the way up to the day before it's due and then I'll do it.

This time was no different.

I wrote my entire paper, the paper that is worth 30% of my grade, the night before it was due. And guess what! I got a B+ on it. I'm feelin' pretty invincible right now . . . let's see what else I can procrastinate.

Student Drivers . . .

I've got terrifying news . . . my younger brother has finally stopped procrastinating, and gotten his permit!!!

From his point of view, it's great. Now he can finally get on the road. Go places when he want's to and whatever. From my point of view, and pedestrians everywhere, it is horrifying news.

Yesterday, I decided (for some unknown reason) to let him drive me to Wal-mart. Could I have been any more stupid? I don't think so. Not only were there a lot of turns in the road leading to Wal-mart, but there was a lot of construction. It was absolutely the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me, and that includes the time I rode on a United States Air Force Plane, and the pilot turned so sharply, the Horizon was no longer horizontal.

Never again.

My Pages

Hello everybody. From the look of the empty comment boards, no one is actually reading this. But no matter! It was one of my resolutions to write weekly, and here I am.

I'm actually here to tell you about something special. I have recently decided to start posting some of my stories online. All these stories are works in progress which is why I'm posting them actually. I need advise! I love writing, but I know that I'm not so great at it. I need you to comment on them!!!

If you click on one of the links pictured below, it will take you to different stories. Now these links may change depending on how well the story seems to be going. For now, we're only going to have about two.

So, sit back, relax, and please enjoy my strange stories from a random mind.

A Big Change

So, I've actually been thinking of cutting my hair. I know that this may seem boring to most everybody, but it's a big decision for me. You see, if I cut my hair, I'm actually going to cut it pretty short, and if I do that, I'll have to do it everyday, or I'll look stupid. OR, I can leave it long and throw it up in a pony tail and under a hat or something on days when I just really don't want to do it.

So there are pros and cons to both side of the story, but I think I'm leaning towards cutting it off.

I did do some research. (Picture research!) I actually found two hairdo's that I really like. I'm leaning more towards the first one, just because I think it would look good on me, but I like the second one a lot too. Just picture it shorter.

Anyway, I need a lot of comments on this one!!! Should I do it or shouldn't I? Are there anymore pro's and con's that you guys can think of? Mary, you had short hair for awhile. How was it?

Music and me

I have finally decided on my favorite band.

I have always struggled with this get to know you question. It seems like I am constantly being asked, who is your favorite band? And you know what . . . I didn't have one. I know it's strange. Teenagers all across the nation have this stereotype attached to them that states that they listen to music 24/7. Yet, I was never really into music. Until recently.

Maybe this is partly due to the fact that my parents are on opposite sides of the musical spectrum (one liking country :I and the other liking retro 80's music :P) But whatever the reason, I have finally discovered a love for music, and am almost always listening to my playlist on this website:

Anyway back to the reason for this post. I have finally discovered my favorite band. Rascal Flatts.

I know that they're a little outdated (and country *shudder*) . . . but come on! They are the best thing since sliced bread!
